Skonce’s story started on the streets. You helped save his life. Now, he’s paying it forward as a Service Dog.
Skonce used to live on the streets. He found a temporary home by a motel in Brunswick, Georgia before someone found him and took him to a shelter.
While Skonce immediately won the hearts of the shelter staff, he was still waiting for his forever home. His caregivers say he was exceptionally sweet and fun to play with. Still, day after day, Skonce waited for someone to adopt him. Seven long and lonely months went by.
Then, through your generosity, K9s For Warriors was able to offer Skonce a lifeline. We saw his incredible potential. He then started his training with K9s For Warriors to become a Service Dog and save a Veteran’s life.
In June, Skonce was paired with Army Veteran Martin. They share an incredible bond.
“Skonce has already shown me a new path toward recovery by holding me accountable to him and his unconditional love and attention,” Martin said. “I am amazed by how much I have learned and bonded with my little guy. I have built up confidence to be out and about on my own.”
Those at the shelter aren’t sure why Skonce was overlooked for seven months. But now, they know he was waiting for his bigger purpose. Thank you for helping us rescue dogs like him, so they can go on to save Veteran lives.
