The moment I applied, my life changed. K9s gave me hope to be able to say that I am not alone.

Rio is not only a Service Dog, but a best friend.

The pure unconditional love these Service Dogs bring to us Warriors is exactly what we need to help us get through our darkness.

I just couldn’t see anything good happening. But then Cameo came along, and she finally gave me a win. She will continue to change my life for the better forever.

Having Eagle has helped to minimize my anxiety and hypervigilance when out in public settings. Eagle helps redirect my attention to him rather than the setting I am in.

Warrior and Service Dog

I had been medically retired from the Marine Corps. I was struggling. I was on 24 pills a day, the pills were killing me. There is a way out besides the pills, besides suicide, there’s light. K9s For Warriors saves two lives. They save shelter dogs, and they save Veterans lives.

This is a personal account written by Ashley, the wife of one of our Warrior/K9 teams, Miles & Frisco.

I’m writing to express my deep gratitude for everyone involved in Frisco’s journey to become Miles’ companion.

When Miles initially applied two years ago, I was hopeful for a positive impact on Miles and our life together. During the two years we spent waiting, my expectations for what Miles and his Service Dog would be capable of only continued to grow.

When I took the Service Dog 101 course with the Advocacy and Support team, I was mildly delusional and had unreasonably high expectations.

Your program, team, and Frisco have far exceeded even my wildest dreams.

Miles and I had many conversations about the transition of bringing a dog into our home. The moment Frisco bounded into our home, it was as if he had always been an essential member of our family.

Frisco isn't my Service Dog, but he has changed my life forever.

I am incredibly humbled and moved knowing how many kind and amazing people played a part in Frisco finding his way to Miles.

Frisco has been home for almost 4 months now, and I still cry almost every day about the goodness he brings into our lives.    I’ll never be able to find adequate words to express how grateful I am for each one of you — you are special and what you do is special so thank you times a million

Mahalo,

Ashley
