How you - and the unconditional love of a Service Dog - changed Jennifer's life forever
As a mother and grandmother, Jennifer embodies strength and dedication. This Warrior spirit extends beyond her family life. As an Air Force Veteran who served in Security Forces, Jennifer also made a selfless commitment to her country.
“After September 11, I felt I needed to do my part and set a good example for my family,” she says.
She served bravely for five years. Then, after transitioning out of the military, Jennifer experienced the challenges so many Veterans endure: the complex journey of readjusting to civilian life and struggling with invisible wounds became her daily reality.
With two sons, a daughter and a granddaughter, Jennifer has a lot to live for. But memories kept her from sleeping through the night, and her days felt dark.
Through your support of K9s For Warriors, you showed her better days were ahead. We paired Jennifer with Ben, a Service Dog who brought so much light back into her life.
“Day one, meeting my battle buddy brought me to tears — tears of hope and joy,” she says. And now, “I’m actually sleeping! I’m getting up early, walking and going to bed at a decent time.”
This is how you change everything for Veterans like Jennifer. She says having Ben by her side “gives hope, light and a weight lifted off my shoulders — a new leash on life, you could say.”
